The show was awful. BET has never had a stellar reputation for their awards shows but theyve sunken to a new low. the jokes jamie made about MJ were insensitive and downright offensive. Too many ghetto skits-jody & yvette, a man coming out half dressed drinking from a gallon of orange juice, the giant cocktail on stage-i mean damn, cant it get any more ghetto. New edition were horrible,im sorry but the singing was off and so was the dancing. And even though im not fond of CB,id rather have seen his tribute to MJ than see jayz perform death to autotune and try to revive his dead career. Beyonces performance nearly put me to sleep, keyshia cole was singing off key(but het at least she sings live, unlike someone else),and soulja boy just added the sprinkles to the entire coon fest. this awards show is a joke.

The BET show and ghetto and lacked CLASS.
The only part of the show that was worth watching was the "OJays".
I am tired of Beyonce and Jay-Z trying to shut down the career of those performers.
Rihanna is just at fault as Chris Brown during that altercation/fight.
Rihanna gave Chris Brown "herpes" and they fought. Yes- he was wrong for putting his hands on Rihanna but damn, is he forever banned from the stage?
Jay-Z has smacked around a lot of women so who is he to throw STONES?
The show would've been better without Jay-Z and Beyonce's performance.
Beyonce performed a set from her tour and sung someone else song at the end of her performance ("In The Arms of An Angel").
Jay-Z allowed other artist in the industry to elevate his career and as soon as they did, he shitted on them – especially by performing "death of the auto-tune".
He know Kayne West, T-pain and other promote auto-tunes.
I don't understand why Jay-Z and Beyonce are given authority to guide the industry.
We're tired of these two lame ass performers.

It's not like chris is on the top of his career anymore. If it is true(which I doubt, because mediatakeout is hardly a reliable source) it shows how easily BET is controlled by people. It was said before that they were very reluctant to let him perform but then they caved. So it's understandable that they changed their minds again. Does he really have that many fans anymore?

This show was terrible.It is a shame that MTV is going to put them to shame with their tribute Michael Jackson. This was the worst awards show I ever seen in my life. The best perfomances were the Ojay's/Johnny/Tyrese/Trey and Maxwell the rest of the show sucked.

You Know I knew this ish would happen.
Satisfaction has been on a decline from the BFT awards, but this has got to be the WORST show in its history. The show was nothing more than a hot ghetto wack azz mess!
Almost everyone sounded horrible, from Keri Hilson (who imo never sounds good live), to Soulja Boy…Absolute coonery and buffonery at its ultimate highest.
Beyonce, Beyonce, Beyonce….I don't know what the hell was she singing and why (well, I do know what she sung, but why she sung it I don't know). Jay Camel and that dumbazz DOA (which should be "Dead On Arrival" b/c that's how his performance was) should have been left out of the show. I was with Jody and Yvette up until Ving Rames showed his azz like my late Grandpops when he unfortunately went on his drinking "sprees." Mary Mary were OK, even though they seemed out of place with all of the crap that went on last night (and I know they are tryna appease/reach out to these dumbass teeny boppers who unfortunately don't have GOD in their sad little lives, but it just sounds so cheezy and corny).
The only good performance I have to tip my hat to were Ne-Yo (who was the only current legitamate artist that could have paid an actual tribute), Keyshia and Monica, and the O'Jays. Not to mention singer (and "panty soaker" apparently) Maxwell.
Like I said last week, when I heard the official BET statement that they were "scrambling to change the show around to pay tribute to Michael Jackson" I knew sh*t would be bad. They should have created and entirely different show to pay tribute and have a legit line up of artists (like Ne-Yo, Mariah Carey, Chris Brown, Omarion, etc…) to pay tribute. The comm is sad…

The rumor was that matthew did not want LeToya Performing on the same stage as Beyonce and she didn't. LeToya only preformed at the pre-show OUTSIDE!
Also, when the award nominees were announced BET only showed pirctures of the nominees through out the whole show, BUT when Beyonce was nominated for best video, they showed the videos of everyone in that category. That was the only time through out the night that videos were shown when the nominees were announced.
If the rumors about JZ and Chris Brown are true, JZ is probably trying to ruin his career.

The best performance last night was Keyshia and Monica. Who can argue with that?? Though it was very simple, I love that song and their vocals were on point. The highlight of the show was the Ojay performances, especially when Tyrese was singing Stairway To Heaven. Even Ginuwine was feeling that part. Soulja Boy's performance is a notable mention. He just did him, what more can you ask for??
All the other performers looked like they winged it.

Jay-Z is so arrogant and so is his wife. They are obnoxious,self centered people. The tribute was about Michael, not him, Chris, or anyone else. Jay-Z's performance was stale, and so was Beyonce inappropriately singing Ava Maria half naked. It was just ridiculous. BET is a poor excuse of a network, always kissing certain celebs asses. That's why they get no respect. If they had any confidence in themselves they wouldn't be intimidated by Beyonce and Jay-Z's threats. There wouldn't have been a real loss if they were replaced because both of their performances were boring as hell. They should've replaced those two with the quickness and extended Maxwell's set to sing some MJ classics and had a few other people who can sing join in with him. That would've been a much better than the hot mess that happened last night The VMas, Grammys and Billboard awards MJ tributes will do a much better job than BET.

1. WTH was Jamie Foxx on last night? He was not funny; I would've thought they had a white comedian hosting the show

I WAS SO ANGRY LAST NIGHT…SEEING THAT COON FEST BET MAKE A MOCKERY OUT OF BLACK FOLKS. I THINK OUT OF THE YEARS IN THAT SHOW HISTORY IT WAS BE FAR THE WORST I EVER SEEN IT.

The "BET Awards" turned into an impromptu Michael Jackson tribute and preliminary ratings show that it will have the event's biggest audience ever.
Nielsen Media Research says the ratings from its 56 biggest markets showed Sunday's "BET Awards" were up 61 percent compared to last year. An estimated 10 percent of turned-on television sets were tuned to the "BET Awards" — an unusually large number for a cable channel, the Associated Press reports.
Nielsen says the show got a 5.8 rating in the overnight ratings. The awards ceremony has been held since 2001 and has never gotten more than a 3.7 rating.
Several celebrities, including host Jamie Foxx, paid tribute to Jackson.
The evening was capped by the emotional appearance of Jackson's sister Janet.
But many who watched the awards show were disappointed, with viewers posting complaints to online entertainment and social networking message boards.
"That was no tribute. That was a travesty," said one person about the show at EW.com. "That did not honor Michael in anyway what he deserved. And as far as Foxx goes, have been a fan of his but not so much now. Shameful performance all around."
Wrote another viewer on EW.com: "I'll be honest, I was disappointed. The only reason I watched was because I was told they were honoring MJ. No one really said anything. Like someone said they should have waited and done a REAL tribute.…"
Promoters say fans who bought tickets to Michael Jackson's 50 canceled concerts in London will receive a full refund.
Los Angeles-based tour operator AEG Live said in a statement released today that all those who bought tickets through an authorized agent will be refunded the cost of their ticket, and service charges.
AEG Live says details will be provided at the Web site http://www.MichaelJacksonLive.com tomorrow.
It says fans can choose to take a refund, or instead receive their actual ticket, which the company said features graphics designed by Jackson.
The offer to receive the ticket will continue until August 14, AEG said.
Around 750,000 fans bought tickets for the shows in London, which were due to begin July 13 and continue until next year.

Grading the performances as they happen (sort-of), typos and all:
New Edition: Jackson 5 medley, "ABC," "The Love You Save." This one is going to be a challenge to instantly grade, as a lot of these performances were certainly thrown together at the last minute, and are more about celebrating our favorite Michael Jackson songs than typical award-show self-promotion. Ideally, that will give us some of the better award-show live performances in memory, where emotion and soul will take precedence over all else. That was certainly the case with this surprise New Edition appearance, where they adorably strutted in red and tan vintage '70s outfits, and were a fitting cover band. It was cute, and set a celebratory tone. Sadly, it did not set the stage for an expansive Jackson tribute show. B
Keri Hilson: "Knock You Down." Kind of a hot mess, and certainly an entertaining one. Hilson was sporting a "Bad"-era Michael look, and showed of some vintage Michael skids and slides, but spent the choruses falling backward into the audience. Her ragtag backing crew looked like it belonged on "The Outsiders" rather than an awards show, but Hilson kept it lively — this was about forcefulness rather than finesse. B
Ne-Yo: "Lady in My Life." A crowd-pleaser, but anything Ne-Yo did was going to win over the audience, as his career has been a love letter to Michael. He handled the ballad fine, but Ne-Yo has the power to bring the house down. Few other young R&B stars could tackle any of Michael's dance numbers with aplomb, but Ne-Yo parked himself on a stool, and went for a tearjerker rather a show stopper. B-
Jamie Foxx & T-Pain & Travis Barker: "Blame It." An already cluttered song, marked by its artless Auto-Tune vocals, became even more cluttered when Blink-182's Travis Barker arrived to hammer away in the song's final few moments. Foxx was better when he referenced "Beat It" in the show's opener. D
Soulja Boy Tell'em: "Turn My Swag On." Hmmm, so much for the BET Awards being completely retooled for a Jackson tribute. Here we get Soulja Boy singing his latest ring tone. "Yeah, I'm getting money," he bounced and hollered, seemingly mocking us all for making him a star. D
Beyoncé: “Ave Maria” and “Angel.” Looking classy in a thin white dress. Wait. No. A few seconds in we see Beyoncé is wearing basically a slip with a see-through white robe, which a wind machine is doing its best to strip her of. It’s a pretty enough song, if this were a Christmas tree lighting. It switches midway to Sarah McLachlan's "Angel,” but the real entertainment at that point was watching a crew of dancing sprites throw a makeshift dress on Beyoncé. B-

Mary Mary: “God in Me.” Foxx introduces Mary Mary as “the new Queens of Gospel,” but they sound an awful lot like standard run-of-the-mill queens of R&B. With a skittering electronic beat, it’s mid-tempo R&B with a smattering of hip-hop. A midpoint appearance from Queen Latifah picks things up, but not by much. C
Ne-Yo with Jamie Foxx and Fabulous: “She Got Her Own.” OK, so the Associated Press noted that these awards may run 30 minutes longer with added Michael Jackson tributes, but how about they just trim the repeat performances from Ne-Yo and Foxx, especially the mid-tempo numbers? Nice to pull out a live version of a remix, but things are definitely slowing down. D+
BET flashback moment: Keith Sweat’s “I Want Her,” Guy’s “I Like” and Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison.” Losing the room. What’s the excuse for this medley? Do all these artists have greatest hits albums coming out? A couple minutes of some old hits, but this is offensive awards-show padding at this point. D
Ciara: “Heal the World.” Sporting a Michael-inspired jacket, complete with tassels, Ciara was sublimely sweet in her take on the Michael classic. Clean, simple, restrained and a bit too short even. B
Keyshia Cole and Monica: “Trust.” A small stairway materialized on the BET stage to add a bit of choreography for the R&B ballad. Monica looked tough in black, almost as if she were ready to jump on a motorcycle. Cole was all hot pink, and the pair tossed verses back and forth, selling a relationship anthem for those skeptical of relationships. B

Jay-Z: “D.O.A.” A take-down of Auto-Tone, this song is pure nonsense — a manufactured attack on a recording device that manipulates vocals. But it’s working, as Jay-Z is getting the headlines, and even when he has nothing to say he’s a more demanding performer than most. Additionally, the dripping sax and alarming guitar notes at least make Jay-Z’s Auto-Tune attack feel important. B+
Tevin Campbell, Trey Songz, Tyrese and Johnny Gill: A tribute to the O’Jays with “Forever Mine,” “Back Stabbers,” “Stairway to Heaven.” Introduced by “Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius, who credited the O’Jays as “the soundtrack of the black experience,” there was nothing wrong with this homage. Seeing Campbell surprised the crowd, and he sounded strong. But the real treat was Cornelius, who chatted off-prompter for five minutes introducing the O’Jays, and telling stories about having to wake them up at their hotel room to get them on “Soul Train.” B
The O’Jays: “Let Me Make Love To You,” “For the Love of Money” and “Used Ta Be My Girl.” Whew — this is a lengthy segment for the O’Jays. In fact, the O’Jays’ music has probably now gotten as much screen time as all of the various Michael nods. But the positive grade for the above medley was given a bit too soon, as that was pure vanilla compared to the lengthy three-song run-down, in which the O’Jays were all suave and class, and even brought a bit of grit. A
Maxwell: “Pretty Wings.” Eloquently introduced by Foxx, who said that the first time he heard Maxwell he almost had himself in a “Prop 8 situation,” the silky R&B veteran performed his new single, the elegant, late-night, slow groove of “Pretty Wings.” Feathers draped the crowd, and a sax helped the song reach its swoon. Now at almost 3½ hours long, the BET Awards are feeling awfully bloated, but Maxwell surely calmed the nerves of anyone who was getting impatient. A-
Drake, Lil Wayne and Cash Money: “Best I Ever Had” and "Every Girl." Along with Kid Cudi, Drake is the hottest rapper who doesn’t have an album out yet, and he got a prime slot on the BET Awards, at least for anyone who was sticking around. He looked a little green, hurrying through his “Best I Ever Had,” and never leaving his stool (Update: Drake was confined to his stool because he reportedly tore his ACL), at least not until he introduced Lil Wayne for “Every Girl.” Much of the latter, however, wasn’t audible to the home viewing audiences, with BET censors protecting the world from Lil Wayne’s explicit anti-commitment rap. C+

Thank you so much.”
Final performance: Ne-Yo and Jamie Foxx singing “I’ll Be There.” As noted earlier, Ne-Yo is the one best equipped to sing a Jackson tribute, and he handles himself well here – a graceful close to an otherwise lengthy, tired and overstuffed award telecast. We'll give this one an A, and wish that the telecast would have done some grander tributes to the fallen King of Pop.

For anyone who didn't understand why Beyucki's performance CLEARLY had nothing to do with paying tribute to Michael, I read an interesting tidbit on BV yesterday [that was originally posted on Twitter by Jawn Murray] which basically stated that she was intent on opening the show with 'Never Can Say Goodbye' but when TPTB shut her down [because they wanted a more upbeat opening], she got pissy and refused to do a tribute to Michael altogether.

The show was redone last min. More than likely (to EBT's credit) they know the itch can't sing and instead of allowing her to yoddle out a MJ song they stuck with something else. Once the moneys paid she has to do what they want or risk being found out.

On the topic, a representative of Chris Brown camp and from BET, according to E channel, Daily 10 issued a statement claiming that rumour was not true and Chris Brown was never confirmed to perform.
Maybe they are trying to save face or maybe it's just a rumour. I tell you one thing these celebs have to be very political when it comes to telling the truth and denying things. They lie on their own wonderful pregnancies, marriages, and numerous from positivity so I am sure they may lie about negative things more. That's why unlike many I like artist, actors and musicians but moreso their work. I cant get personal with them on the level of a fan or foe because we dont really know them until years after they die or are off the seen and we see their E true Hollywood story and find how they were sooooo oppositte of what we thought.

Chris Brown was a no-show at Sunday night’s BET Awards because producers pulled his performance at the last minute.
According to several insiders, Brown’s appearance was considered risky business on a night honoring Michael Jackson. The “No Air” singer is facing negative publicity after pleading guilty to the February assault of his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
One source says Brown’s absence came at the insistence of the Rev. Al Sharpton. “Al made such a fuss to the BET executives that they pulled Chris,” says our insider, who adds that Jay-Z also had a hand in the decision. “Jay is a big name in the BET community, and he was very vocal about his displeasure with Chris attending the ceremony. He didn’t want Chris anywhere near the awards so close to the court’s ruling.”
Brown isn’t taking the public dis on the chin, either. “He’s furious,” a pal of the singer tells us. “BET asked him to perform and waited until the last minute to tell him it was off. He’s pretty shocked and outraged right now.”
Both BET publicists and Brown’s camp say the singer was never confirmed for the show.
Meanwhile, Rihanna’s absence from the event was just as noticeable as Brown’s. But while her ex fumed, the “Umbrella” singer was busy hanging out with her crush, Orlando Magic forward Rashard Lewis, in NYC. Says a rep for the beauty, “Rihanna was never meant to attend [the BET awards].”
Also expected at the ceremony were Usher and Justin Timberlake; both bowed out of the event but agreed to take part in a later tribute to Jackson on BET.
Usher, who attended fashion shows in Paris over the weekend, sent his regrets in a prepared statement. Timberlake was also out of the country, hitting up both Wimbledon and the Hard Rock Calling concert in London.
But perhaps JT should have made the ceremony at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium, because in his absence, he was the recipient of a roast by Jeremy Piven. “Justin should be here,” the “Entourage” actor joked. “If not for Michael Jackson, [Justin] would be selling curly fries in the Valley.”

BET, E online, and whoever else is lying saying Chris was never supposed to perform at the awards because it was on bet.com's front page that he was supposed to perform, ybf also posted a statement from Stephen Hill that Chris Brown would be in it, and two of Chris' background dancers confirmed on their Twitter page that Chris was supposed to perform but what was pulled out because of Jay-Z. So that's enough proof for me, and the rest of the public now knows he's the reason Chris didn't perform. People were really looking forward to a proper MJ tribute with excellent dancing, and to find out he was the cause of screwing it up has pissed a lot of people off, the sites reporting other people being the cause of it are just trying to save face on Jay-Z's behalf or are too scared or gullible to report the truth.

That includes the way performers are dressing or not dressing today. All it does is take away from your given talent. Call me old fashion but I remember back in the day, going to concerts to see Aretha, Carlie Simon, Carol King, Diana Ross, Four Tops, Michael Jackson, Chicago, Elton John, Barry Manilow, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, etc., and the list goes on.
